THE DAY OF THE GROUNDHOG

On this cross-quarter day, halfway beteen the Winter Solstice and Vernal Equinox, we pay homage to an 8-pound subterranean rodent and the ceremonial turning of the seasons. Here are some ways to make Ground Hog Day a little more special...

Brown it out

Do you have an old brown sweater? Pair it with some brown courderoys and your favorite loafer and hit the streets!

Perform your own shadow show

Today is a great day to embrace the fact that humans have been dancing with their own shadows since the cave days.

Enjoy a Groundhog Day Cocktail, you deserve it

"The Groundhog Day" Sweet Vermouth on the Rocks: Pour sweet vermouth over ice in a Double Old-Fashion cocktail glass. Stir and twist lemon peel over the glass. Serve with a cocktail straw and lemon twist as garnish.

"The West Virginia Groundhog" Combine 1 ounce each of vodka, gin, rum, Southern Comfort, sloe gin, amaretto, Yukon Jack Canadian liqueur and triple sec with 2 splashes each orange and cranberry juice. Fill a tumbler with ice; shake. Serve as shots.

Go out dressed as your seasonal prediction

Are you an optimist who believes spring has sprung? Or, like Puxatawney Phil, do you think "winter" will linger on? Your look can say it all. Perhaps you'll even hang out at an underground bar until the sun comes up.

PUSHING PAPER AT LVMH

In late January, WCIP was enlisted by luxury group LVMH to create an elegant, artful environment for a celebratory dinner, hosted in their sky high ballroom in NYC. Using a yards of simple white paper, we created an engaging and voluminous visual solution, while keeping the spotlight on the honorees. Guests were treated to a three-course dinner by our favorite catering house Canard, and enjoyed a preview of the newest dance film from Swedish director Pontus Lindberg.

HOUSE WARMING

The 22nd Annual BAILEY HOUSE Auction and Benefit is but an empty giftbag of memories and warm feelings.

Last Thursday, the city's fashionably large-hearted mixed, mingled, and were generally munificent as they bid upon art, leisure, and other donated items to raise funds for New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS.

Items ranged from trips to Costa Rica to lifetime experiences including a backstage experience with Diane Sawyer. Guests were privy to a cutting-edge silent auction technology from IML which allowed for real-time tracking of bidding amounts and a streamlined purchasing experience for winners.

Dear friend and fellow experiential designer STEFAN BECKMAN & co. were on hand to install this year's set, with support from HK CREATIVE and the We Came In Peace team. Inspiration for this year's atmosphere came from the bold graphics and communal rallies of the Constructivist movement.

Nightlife blog GUEST OF A GUEST reports:

The crowd is typically made up of an eclectic group, from business men, to downtown hipsters, to press and photographers. Last night was no different. All the guests are fashion insiders, in their own right, and come dressed in their best. One man, Fantasia, was dressed in a long velvet cloak and a king's crown. Others preferred to wear their fur, little black dresses, or skinny jeans.

The Roseland Ballroom had a full bar set up, with lots of drinks and food. Also, included for guests to indulge in was a Ben & Jerry's ice cream station. This is where I would have spent my night.

Kingpin of the gay mafiosia Simon Doonan presided over the scene, accruing squillions of dollars towards the cause. Bravo to all who attended, donated, and posed for pictures.

HE'S HAIR TO PARTY

Intertwining his skills of pigment-pushing and prose-weaving, local artist in residence of our Milky Way galaxy, MICHIEL SANDERS is a unique being among us. His living art space in Brooklyn is known for the epic live drawing brunches and infamous for midday photoshoot striptease soirees.

We came into close contact with Msr. Sanders only one fashion week ago; our lives have forever changed for the better. A veritable flaneur of the arts, Michiel exists in a shimmery space between beauty, fine art, and society's glitterati.

In short, this creature radiates a love for all things beautiful, and captures them on the regular - via canvas or blog postings.

Peer inside the colorful romper rooms of his thoughts at ART.FASHION.STARS.

Fritz Helder and the Phantoms + The Twenty Ten

Descending upon NYC in a gust of glittery beats, runway-ready Canadian electro-glam band, Fritz Helder and the Phantoms have arrived to thrust us into the lion-jaws of March. Premiering a cache of heel breaking, bodice bursting chansons, New Yorkers will become Fritz's lab bunnies; applying his unique brand of aural cosmetics to our hungry ears.  Tonight, they headline Greenpoint's GERMS @ Europa, with special guest host, THETWENTYTEN.

This once in a lifetime combination promises a night of dark grandeur, blissful oblivion, and outer borough borscht. In Lieu of fashion weeks closure, and early evening lubrication, check out one of WCIP's favored tracks.

I Love Factory defies mainstream

Saturday's Eternal Coronation presentation was magical!! Thank you so much to everyone who came out.

Laurel said it. "Not only did we transform an already perfect space into a magical vignette complete with absinthe over sugar cubes and fish heads under bell jars, we also managed to cultivate a comfortable, intimate, completely magnetic milieu."

Bacall of Defying Mainstream wrote the most glorious recap, and even posted her own video moment of the installation (scored by our playlist no less!)! We LOVE HER!

Thank you Bacall, it was wonderful to meet you! And thank you to all our supporters, participants, sponsors, and lovers. XOXO
