CAFE BUSTELO MARFA

THE CAFE BUSTELO FILLING STATION AT MARFA FILM FESTIVAL / MARFA, TX / MAY 5-9, 2010
ART DIRECTION • VISUAL MERCHANDISING • CUSTOM LIGHTING • PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

The Café Bustelo Filling Station roared into the one-stoplight town of Marfa, Texas for the third annual Marfa Film Festival. A desert lounge housed in a turn-of-the-century Masonic Lodge on historic Highland Avenue, The Filling Station was, quite literally, the "heart" of the festival. Bustelo's iconic heart logo was blown up to a Texas-sized 20 foot long 3D bar, where countless iced Bustelo Cools were sampled by thirsty Film Festival attendees. An installation of Cafe Bustelo cans, stones and geodes borrowed from local rock shop Moonlight Gemstones, eclectic furnishings and indigenous plants, The Filling Station's aesthetic was inspired by Marfa’s open, minimal desert surroundings and magical energy. By day, guests sipped Cools, surfed the web, swapped stories, and took in the moment to an intoxicating soundscape of Bossa Nova, Exotica, Space-Age, Soft-Psych, and Latin influences. By night The Filling Station was buzzing with bands, guest DJs and assorted party people, closing out the festival with a dance party that raged until the sun came up over the Chinati Mountains.
